Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics (PIA) Reviews
Rating 3.8 out of 5 50 reviews
PIA is the very first place I received formal education/training in electricity/aviation technology (I was going to be a lawyer). A lot of students are already mechanically inclined, but the school is open to students with absolutely no experience, like me, to attend and succeed. Instructors are qualified in the field because they have their A&P license, however, not all of them are qualified to teach. They can talk about airplane and experiences in maintenance, but they are not qualified to actually teach. This leads to students teaching themselves, especially those with no prior experience. This is great practice for discipline, but, it leads to growing frustration that the $40k in tuition is being wasted because students are not being taught what they are paying to learn. Job placement is amazing; there's no worry about getting a job before graduation. The school needs qualified teachers who can teach, not just qualified retired mechanics who are "teaching" because they need money.
Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics is a career focused, no nonsense school. PIA does not offer a typical college experience with the fact there are no dorms, social scenes or clubs as the campus is located at the Allegheny County Airport. PIA is very rigorous in its curriculum and teaches the strictness that can be found in the aviation industry. If it is focused, to the point learning you want in a school, and take interest in aviation or technical trades, PIA offers a course with a career in mind.
PIA is a wonderful school that has been a great experience for me. Teachers are qualified and well knowledgeable. Work load is expected for the program I’m currently in.
